Jojoba Esters
Jojoba esters are a complex mixture of long chain fatty acids from jojoba oil and hydrogenated jojoba oil that are used to give strength and structure to products and creams. The result is smooth, richly hydrated skin. DERIVED FROM jojoba oil.
WITHOUT EXCEPTIONS INGREDIENT
Kaolin
A soft white powder used to help absorb oil and create a smooth surface while reducing the appearance of pores. DERIVED FROM naturally occurring clay minerals; used as an opacifying and anti-caking agent in cosmetics.
WITHOUT EXCEPTIONS INGREDIENT
Laureth-21
Laureth-21 ingredients are used as surfactants to cleanse, emulsify, and thicken formulations. Used topically, surfactants such as Laureth-21 can cause minor skin irritation. The Independent Cosmetics Ingredient Review panel has concluded that Laureth ingredients are safe when formulated to be non-irritating or having minimal to no skin contact. Developmental and reproductive toxicity studies as well as mutagenicity data were all negative for these compounds. DERIVED FROM the reaction of combining ethylene oxide with lauryl alcohol.
WITH EXCEPTIONS INGREDIENT
Small amounts of 1,4 dioxane, a byproduct of ethoxylation, may be found in the Laureth ingredients. When Laureth is used for cosmetic applications, it undergoes a purification process to control the potential presence of 1,4 dioxane, ensuring it is removed before blending into cosmetic formulations.
VRAI IQ
When used in a formula such as mascara or similar products that have minimal to no skin contact, the risk for such irritation is rare and unlikely. Products applied to hair or lashes with no skin contact do not absorb into the skin tissue or blood stream.
Lauroyl Lysine
Lauroyl Lysine is derived from amino acids, lauric acid (coconut oil), and lysine, and functions as a skin-softening agent that leaves a silky feel on the surface. When used in makeup formulations, it assists in adhering powders to the skin, ensuring longer-lasting wear. DERIVED FROM coconut oil.
WITHOUT EXCEPTIONS INGREDIENT
Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract
Research supports that Lavender Flower Extract may show anti-microbial properties as well as maintaining lash follicle strength and shine. DERIVED FROM steam-distillation of the flowering tops of the lavender plant.
WITHOUT EXCEPTIONS INGREDIENT
Lecithin
As a multi-functioning ingredient, lecithin serves many roles when used in cosmetics. It is an emollient, humectant, and emulsifying agent. It helps to provide skin-softening benefits, boost hydration by attracting and retaining moisture, and helps to loosen dead skin cells for more rapid turnover. DERIVED FROM – in cosmetic use – soy, sunflower or rapeseed, making it naturally beneficial by being rich in phospholipids, fatty acids, and triglycerides to help replenish skin. Because soy is listed as a common allergen, caution should be taken by those with soy allergies or a sensitivity to soy products.
WITHOUT EXCEPTIONS INGREDIENT
Malus Domestica (Apple Stem Cell) Fruit Culture
The rare Swiss apple Uttwiler Spätlauber is rich in epigenetic factors and metabolites to support skin cells. This particular species of apple is known for its longevity, withstanding a long storage time without losing flavor or integrity thanks to its rare compounds. These stem cell actives enhance the longevity of the skin cell and protect them from environmental stress. DERIVED FROM the extraction of compounds from the Uttwiler Spätlauber apple.

MCT Oil
MCT oil, also known as Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, is a concentration of medium-chain triglyceride fats with hydrating properties. It functions as a skin replenisher and helps to prevent moisture loss. DERIVED FROM coconut oil and glycerin.
WITHOUT EXCEPTIONS INGREDIENT
Methylpropanediol
Methylpropanediol functions as a solvent in cosmetic formulations and can enhance the absorption of other ingredients for better penetration and efficacy. With its efficacy function, it acts as a preservative booster and shows to exhibit antimicrobial properties. It also works to attract and retain hydration in the skin and helps to improve skin barrier functions. DERIVED FROM synthesizing allyl alcohol with propylene oxide as the first part of a two step chemical reaction. It is then comprised of the hydrogenation of the n and iso intermediates to the corresponding diols. Prolonged direct application to skin can result in sensitivity over time. Use in products that have minimal to no skin contact show no irritation, with no adverse side effects.
WITH EXCEPTIONS INGREDIENT
Continued evaluation concludes this product is safe for use.
VRAI IQ
This ingredient should be taken into consideration if using in formulations with significant skin coverage. When used in formulations with minimal to no skin contact, there have been no reported adverse effects for concern consideration.
Mica
Mica is a naturally occurring silicate mineral and used as a colorant that imparts a reflective shine for a shimmer effect, or for a healthy glow in cosmetic formulations. DERIVED FROM silicite minerals.
WITHOUT EXCEPTIONS INGREDIENT
Because concern exists in community forums over the safety of this ingredient although numerous testing has found it to be safe in cosmetic use, the independent Cosmetic Ingredient Review panel has deferred evaluation until the FDA does an assessment. Currently, the FDA lists mica as a color additive exempt from certification and deems it safe for using as a colorant in cosmetics and personal care products.
VRAI IQ
Although Mica is repeatedly found safe for use in cosmetic applications, and has been refined for cosmetic productions, controversy exists around this ingredient due to the dangers during mining. Direct inhalation of mica dust for prolonged periods of time can result in abrasion and scarring of the lung tissue. If you have found yourself in such situation where you have forgotten your miner’s mask, and will have prolonged exposure to raw mica minerals during mining, it would do you well to worry. If you are sweeping a stunning color across your eyelid or cheekbone for a youthful radiant glow, you may proceed with joyous abandon.
Myristoyl Hexapeptide-16
Myristoyl Hexapeptide-16 is a six amino acid peptide categorized as a protein stimulating peptide. It stimulates the genes responsible for keratin production (thereby boosting keratin production), improves skin's resilience, calms minor irritation, and helps to give skin a smoother appearance and feel. It is a synthetic fatty acid linked with a long chain of polypeptides.
WITHOUT EXCEPTIONS INGREDIENT
Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17
Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17 is a five amino acid peptide categorized as a protein stimulating peptide. It stimulates the genes responsible for keratin production (thereby boosting keratin production), improves skin's resilience, calms minor irritation, and helps to give skin a smoother appearance and feel. It is a synthetic fatty acid linked with a long chain of polypeptides.
